JESUS CHRIST! I think people seriously need to calm down. These ARE the colors you would find in China Doll. I think it sucks that we’ve gotten to the point where if someone uses another nationality to describe something people immediately shout racism.
god fucking damnit. I hate this. Someone tries to appreciate and pay homage to another culture, and they get slammed for racism.

I think some people don’t realize that cultures by definition have distinguishing characteristics, and that often the only way to describe the look is to call out the culture by name.
not to mention that this is a VERY common thing in the fashion industry.
it’s great to have ideals, but you also have to remember the reality and then work toward your ideal within the reality.
and get the stick out of your ass, look up the word “INTENT” and enjoy beauty.
Except that like, some of us white folks seem to really not understand that other people’s cultures aren’t there for us to use in whatever self-entitled way we see fit. I don’t know what kind of ‘defining’ characteristics we’re getting at here, and honestly I’d rather you don’t try to answer that for fear of more gross stereotypes, like in the descriptions for this particular ad. A “China Doll” is not a nationality, if you did a little research you’d find that China Doll is a term that came about from white mens’ experiences with Chinese sex workers. It posits the stereotype of Chinese women as being obedient, subservient, naive and over sexualized. There are legitimate reasons to be offended, and it is not the place of white folks to decide that people aren’t allowed to be offended when their cultures are pooped all over.
